Sea Days

Do not ever assume that days at sea, drilling holes in the water, are boring. We have (had) six sea days between Hawaii and Bora Bora. About 19:30 last evening (January 17, 2020) the Captain once again announced that our ship, Azamara Journey, was altering course to head for the nearest island. What is the nearest island when you are at 01º 58.89’ N & 157º 29.31’ W? A little place called Kiritimati (also known as Christmas Island according to Wikipedia). According to the Captain, there is a very sick crew member who needs assistance and we are going to deliver that crew member to Kiritimati where a Coast Guard aircraft from Hawaii will pick him/her up and fly back to Hawaii.

This is the second time on this cruise we altered course for emergencies. While having to respond to the emergencies is never a good thing and we wish them all well, it is very interesting to note the contingency planning etc. We are still expected to arrive in Bora Bora on time.

Balcony Sunset 01/17/2020
I caught this picture of the sunset last evening from our balcony. Today, as we cross the Equator, there is supposed to be a big ceremony on deck involving Neptune and whipped cream. More on that later.

We hope those of you who actually read this enjoy these little notes.
